Quick Question

By Moriah on April 24th, 2008

Does anyone have a weekly house cleaning schedule that, you know, actually works?

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha! Housecleaning schedule? What is THAT?

No schedule for me. One thing that helps me is to get up and get a load of laundry going while I’m waiting on my coffee or tea.

Another thing is to go to bed with my house picked up and my kitchen clean. That way I’m not overwhelmed when I first wake up.

Hey–I made your meat and potatoes dish for my family last night. They loved it. It’s a keeper and my husband asked me to be sure to make it again. Thanks for sharing!

um, that would be a big NO. well, monday is laundry day. every evening (except fridays sometimes) is dishes. other than that we pay someone to come in once a month, but our excuse is health issues. either way, it’s well worth the $50.

I have a cleaning schedule, but life always seems to get in the way…
If your kids never get sick, you never have anything unexpected come up, it works great 8-)! MY life just doesn’t seem to work that way. I used to dole out the chores throughout the week, but with homeschooling now, I don’t usually have time for more than maintenance chores. Right now, I’m having Saturday be our cleaning day. But with both of those plans, things always seem to come up and rock my boat. Grrrr!

Steve has suggested, whenever I start whining about the cleaning, that I tackle just one room a day. REally clean the bathroom on Thursday, focus on the living room Tuesday etc. That could work, I just get sidetracked by the endless clutter and dishes all over the rest of the house. Growing up, my mom was just cleaning all the time. She never went upstairs without carrying toys, laundry, shoes, etc with her. Her house is always clean because she never stops cleaning. That is one way to do it, but I do like to stop every once in a while.

Yes I do. I tidy Wednesday nights and clean on Thursdays. That’s when the Lewin boys come, and Etienne is still on the floor, so I feel like everything needs to be at least clean!
It works for me mostly, but sometimes like today when Lucy has a vet app. at 8 and I’m teaching 2nd grade from 9-12 and the boys are here from 12:30-4 it’s not spotless. But having that set time in my mind always helps.

My mother, being the sister of Nicky’s mom also has a clean house always…but yeah, she doesn’t sit very much at all. Or ever.

No set schedule for me, but I do find that having 2 set laundry days helps.

I loosely stick to Mon and Thurs or Fri, depending on which day is busiest with other things. When I used to do a load a day, I felt like I had folded(or unfolded) laundry everywhere all the time.

  9. It's a beautiful day! on April 24, 2008 10:13 pm

nope, notta one. The only thing we are half-way consistent on is having the kiddos pick up their toys before bed and trying to get the dishes done. Sat. used to be our “massive” clean. If were to have consistency at this point in my life, I”de have to hire a maid:-)

Have your son’s speech therapist come to your home once a week. LOL

I recently discovered Motivated Moms (www.motivatedmoms.com)and LOVE it!! I’ve become a little obsessed. It breaks things down into small little bits, and by the weekend your house is clean. I highly recommend it. :)

This is the extent of the cleaning:
The kids (3 teenagers) have assigned dish/kitchen cleaning nights.

Those same kids do their own laundry. And they clean their bathroom.

I do laundry for the remaining 3 of us on Saturday.

I vacuum on Saturday. I dust about once a year. I clean my bathroom sporadically, usually when I’m brushing my teeth :)

It will be better when your kids are older, but ONLY if you train them to clean, now.

Wow, I was about to comment but, it seems that your question has been answered.
But here goes anyway…..I try to do a little every day. A room here and there. Or dust & vacuum one day, laundry the next. Although Laundry is my biggest Enemy.
My house is a little over 6000 sq.ft & I can honestly say I clean it all myself. It does help that we have a “TOY ROOM” which cuts the clutter of toys down to Zero. We have a rule that the toys do Not leave the toy room, & the kids are responsile for picking them up (mind you, mine are 7, 5 & 5) so they can manage that. Also my girls are all about helping. I give them a clorox wipe & they wipe dowm all the door handles & light switches. I do bathrooms all one day, & the Kitchen another.
Every couple of weeks I get on a cleaning rampage & tackle the entire thing & the big jobs. This works the best for me & it’s never really out of control or Dirty. Every Friday I do the main floor ’cause we usually have company & my husband has church meetings here every Sunday morning.
So there you have it, probably more info than you needed….it works for me. Once for Valentines my hubby had a cleaning company come in, & I hated it. I thought they did a horrible job & I ended up redoing it all.
    P.S. I promise I Am NOT a clean freak!!

yeah, right. 4 little ones has put me over the edge of a really clean house. Now we run on crisis mode. Example: Charlie decided to use the toilet like a “big boy”
(the joy of an older brother). Afterwards, that bathroom was deemed necessary to clean/bleach, etc. :)
When Mom comes, she does all the deep cleaning stuff – kids rooms, beds, etc. So if you can’t afford a housecleaner, get your Mom to visit. :)

Snort. Yeah. Her name is Faith. She costs $60. She’s very reliable and always arrives on schedule. ;-)

A little energy and I could have a schedule to clean the house – but it’s never been my thing. Invite people over and you will CLEAN! :)
