Valentine’s Day
My mom left this morning, which was sad. She was supposed to leave Wednesday but last weekend we decided to extend her ticket until today. She HAD to go home today, though, because she and my dad had tickets tonight to see Brian Regan. (Clearly I have cool parents.)
(Pretending not to be jealous.)
Andy and I gave the kids their Valentine bag o’ goodies this morning (let’s just go ahead and ignore the sugar-intake on holidays, shall we?) and then my girls and I went up to a Valentine’s brunch at my friend Sarah’s. (Which was lovely, as I knew it would be.)
Andy took Drew on a little outing and unfortunately I have nothing to say about that because you know how male reports are. (“It was good!” “It was fine!”)
This afternoon one of my sisters and I ran over to see my brother’s display at the trade show and were duly impressed. He designs and builds things, and it’s a little hard to believe my little brother has done all that from scratch. Even his brochures were professional.
Andy had to work tonight (story of my life), which is fine because we had our big date for breakfast yesterday. I hung out with my sister and kids and ate pizza and cut Drew’s hair and now I really should clean my house but who wants to do that on a holiday?
I’d rather hear your fun (and family-friendly) Valentine stories from today. Please tell!

Had a fun date with John and two of my best friends and their husbands. Food was DELICIOUS and we laughed and talked and just enjoyed the evening. We were home before 9PM (we’re SO old). I was thankful for a night out though!
I know lots of people who went to Brian Regan. Hope it was fun.
Yeah, I can fix your mom up with some GS Cookies…you should give her my email (or vice versa).
This was NOT an impressive V’Day for us, as unemployment looms on the horizon. However, it was our 20th V’Day together. And since the first one was spend in the hospital, when I had mono (what a Valentine’s illness!), I guess we have improved! Last night we visited some elderly folks from church, and I took them some of the chocolates Adam made me :)
BTW, “It was good,” “It was fine,” is actually revelatory. By the time they’re in high school, they say nothing unless you ask, and then the reply is “Uh huh.”
We ended up having dinner with friends – STEAK AND LOBSTER dinner which I didn’t have to cook! We each had our kids with us, too, but that was just as well. ;-)
I made dh breakfast in bed.
The kids and I went on a heart-shaped hunt around the cottage for pics for my blog.
Went for a walk by the sea with the kids, then to the cinema to see Bolt.
In the evening dh cooked me a delicious meal – followed by Ben and Jerrys icecream.
My husband and I went out on Friday night – dinner and a show at the local community theater.
The next morning the kids woke us up – “hurry Mom and Dad!! we made you a surprise!!” They had made breakfast – i.e. they toasted a whole loaf of bread – and they gave us valentines that they made the night before with the sitters!
We had the most laid-back Valentines Day evah. (Which also translates to the most frugal – which was fine with me). We rented a movie at Redbox, and grilled. How’s that for exciting? :)
What kinds of things does your brother make/build?
One of the boys head butted Jad and we were sure his (Jad’s)nose was broken. I nearly got my neck chopped off, as Daniel would say, by a frisbee. But overall, everyone loved “Balentine’s” and ate alot of chocolate to prove it.
We too had the steak and lobster meal at home with a nice glass a wine. The kids were with us too which didn’t create the romantic atmosphere we hoped for but hey…we enjoy the lil one’s while we have them. Someday they won’t want to be with us on Valentines day.
We took a BBQ dinner to friends who recently had a baby. We ate on paper plates in the living room while juggling our kids – but it was so delicious that it didn’t matter!
I posted the longest blog ever about mine :) I won’t do it again here lol
