Shopping Consignment

By Moriah on April 3rd, 2009

On Tuesday I was able to duck into one of the local seasonal children’s consignment sales, alone.  (I cannot shop those ‘must-dig’ places with kids in tow.)

I stuck almost completely to looking for dresses.  I’ve found that playclothes are typically not worth the effort second-hand.  Consignors price them almost equal to buying new at Target or Walmart and thank you, I’d rather have new in that case.

I wasn’t overly impressed with the contents of the sale this time, but I did manage a few gems:

I paid $3 for this little smocked number (in perfect condition, too):

I get asked a lot about where I get my girls dresses. Now you know! My other tips are Ebay (search words like “smocked bishop” and the size), or buy them off your friends when their little girls’ clothes are too small. Also keep an eye at boutique stores for clearance sales.

Love your finds! Consignment sales are my favorite way to shop…and I’m with you, it requires being alone!

That’s funny…I thought this was a repeat from last year’s post. :) Cute finds!

You really need to learn to make your own smocked dresses.Smocking is much faster than cross-stitch. I hear Nicky is learning. Her boys will look so cute….like Steve would ever let them wear something smocked!

I just hit a consignment sale at a local private school this morning with the girls. It was the second day so I didn’t really see any clothing gems (and I agree with you on play clothes) but I got my baby girl a pair of sparkly pink and white Skechers for $6 and a pair of nearly brand new looking Barbie sandals for my older girl for a dollar plus brand new with tag pool shoes for my youngest for a $1.

    Woot!

You did great on the cute dresses. I love smocking.

So cute, Moriah! And good tips…I have had some good luck with Ebay, too.

I looked at Walmart for those sweet flowered dresses your girls had on in those pics last week, but they were out. Guess I’ll have to try another store, but for $6 I won’t complain!
