The Journey Begins

Alternate title: “Adelaide’s wearing a hot pink diaper”
Several weeks ago Dolly mentioned she was thinking of switching to cloth diapers and showed me the ones she was trying. That got my mental wheels turning, visions of future dollar signs saved in my head.
I never would have dreamed doing cloth with Drew… I didn’t really know anyone who wasn’t using disposables and assumed the cloth options were still like what my grandmother would have used.
So imagine my surprise when I found out about this little gem:

It pretty much works the same as a disposable, save that you don’t actually, you know, dispose of it.
Since then I found a few really great sales, and let’s just say there’s no turning back now. I have a few disposables left, but I’m saving them for church. Adelaide’s been wearing panties during the day but she’s been wearing a cloth diaper the past few naps and last night I crossed my fingers and put one on her for overnight.
12 hours later, she woke up dry. (I mean, the diaper was soaked, but her jammies and sheets were dry.)
I bought only the one-size (adjustable to fit babies 7-35 pounds), and the bulk of them will be used by the new baby. But I figured I might as well have her be wearing them in the meantime; there’s no sense in spending even more money on any more packs of Luvs.

We’re in this together friend. For better or worse.
I so could have done this if I had tried and had friends that did it too – Mac will potty train soon and then I’ll be past the diapers, right? Unless the Lord has a surprise for me. :) One size fits 7-35 lbs, who has ever heard of such a thing??
We’ve been using cloth diapers for just over 3 years now. Hopefully I can get Alexa out of them before this baby is born. We use the one-size kind, too.
Yay! I love these diapers too. :) Oh- and I use them at church, but just stop by to do diaper changes or asked to be paged. Most don’t mind changing them for me though- I just feel more comfortable doing it myself.
Well… here’s the thing. She’s not in nursery anymore, so I’m more talking about her Sunday school class… I guess I could be paged but I don’t want the teacher to have to stop in the middle of everything in a room full of 2 year olds. KWIM?!
Welcome to the other side! ;-) You may already know this, but vinegar in the rinse cycle will get rid of any residual odor.
So cool – I didn’t know there was anything like this out there? So, a couple questions – how many do you have (for the new baby)? How much are they? Will you really be saving money with all the laundry? And, where do you put them while they’re “waiting” to be washed? I think it’s the EW factor that gets me more than anything else… Totally interested!
I love our cloth diapers. In fact, I’m kind of sad they are in the wash right now.
We’ve had good luck with bumgenius – even pretty good with breast-fed baby poo. Just FYI – if you ever have any questions about cloth diapers, Becca James is an expert, especially bumgenius.
I’m just now catching up from our move and I’m SO glad you posted this! I’ve been thinking about cloth for this upcoming baby and it’s a little overwhelming looking through all of the options. I’ll have to check the BumGenius!
looks a lot more practical than the g-diaper.
Always wanted to try these, but wanted to make everything as easy as possible on my father in law. Didn’t think he would love the idea…
FYI too, I have used motherease one size diapers for awhile, but I just purchased a set of cotton chinese prefolds with bummi covers to have some extras on hand. They’re very easy to use and don’t stink. If you happen to need more diapers, especially with the new baby, check them out. I think they’re 21.00 a dozen or something crazy cheap like that. Happy cloth diapering!
Cool! Remind me to show you our cloth diaper “stash” when I get back home from WY in Oct.
