Bubbles!

By Moriah on September 21st, 2009

Skirts, I mean.

(I got the idea here.)

I had no idea if this project would be successful and it was a total whim. I didn’t even have a pattern, just a vague idea in my head. I couldn’t even find a good online tutorial.  That said, I totally astonished myself.

Meet the Bubble Skirts, seen live this fall:

There are two common ways to make a poofy hem, I used a knit liner and gathering (versus an elastic casing):

The only real difficulty is coming to terms with the fact that she does not need twenty of them!

So fun! And a great use for bold fabric prints. Where have you found the best leggings this season?

Really cute, and it doesn’t look like it takes a lot of fabric. I’d like to know about the leggings, too. I got some bold patterns on clearance over the summer at Land’s End, but I need some good sturdy solid leggings for A.

You should do a tutorial! I’d love to make a few of those but I’m not crafty enough to do it without instructions. Of course, I’d need to unpack my sewing machine first :)

For some reason, your pictures aren’t showing up for me, just little boxes with “img” and a number.

reloaded the page, and all is well now :)

PS. and as a homeschooling momma of middle school “girly” girls who want desperately to learn to sew,…. do you teach lessons? (you know… in your spare time?) They will have to teach themselves one day, otherwise, b/c i am a hopeless cause with this.
    just wondering?

Nicky, I totally understand. *sniffle* no girls here.

    So adorable, Moriah.

I love these! Do you have basic directions? I was thinking about making some, but wasn’t completely sure. And Lu wants to be a flower fairy for Halloween, thought I could make one and throw a few petals into it. Don’t worry about her not needing 20…you should just start making them for 6 months and 9 month sizes :)

Or maybe I could hire you to make some for my neice! (Mike’s daughter Isabella) :)
