The Snowball Effect

By Moriah on September 30th, 2009

I have to dash out the door early tomorrow morning (Wednesday) to be able to get a few errands done before Madeline’s picture-taking appointment at 11. (Why do we wait ’till the very last day of the expiration month before getting a new license plate sticker? The line at the courthouse is sure to be excruciatingly long.)

And yes, her birthday was in June. I’m going to dress her in a summer dress and just pretend.

(Clearly being on time is not my current forte.)

So, all that to say, I’m going to try to crank out a post tonight and throw it up before I leave in the morning. You’ve been warned.

My plan for today was to get Drew’s door painted. He’s had pencil scribbled all over it for about a year now, along with all manner of other scuffs, and it had become one of those things you see so often you just don’t notice anymore. (Like my refrigerator door. If you’ve been to my house, you know what I’m talking about.)

I had bought a little can of door/trim paint the other week and finally decided today was the day. (Really, the main reason I chose today was just because both Drew and Madeline were at school.)

BUT THEN, seeing his sparkly white and gleaming door, well, the trim around it looked rather dingy, as did the baseboards. So they got a little quicky coat of paint, too. And then I noticed the bathroom door.

You know where this is going, right? I ended up painting the bathroom door/trim next, and then the two hall closet doors (and trim), the main entrance door to the hallway, the trim around the arch into the dining room, the trim around the entrance to the kitchen, and touch ups around all the pertinent baseboards…

So that’s what I did today: PAINT. And you know what?

My walls look terrible.

Sigh….there’s nothing like freshly painted walls (or trim in your case) Unfortunately it never stays like that….maybe when the kids move out? =)

Well, it seemed like a productive plan :o)
For all the rest of you….I was telling Moriah yesterday that our new house has FLAT paint on the walls….which I expect to look good for maybe until 3 minutes after we move in….anyone have tips on keeping walls looking fresh?

I was thinking that I need to do the very same thing. Happy painting!

    nesting in full force :)

I’m trying to imagine a very determined full term pregnant mommy scrutinizing baseboards~

Hope you are feeling good! Praying for you!

I love it when Jason gets into the “paint trim” mood, but it really does make your walls look terrible.
I enjoyed hanging out tonight, as always! I look forward to it each week.

Moriah. which is your favorite place to get the kids’ pictures? I love the pic people, yet most often we go to penny’s for their 4 dollar sheets. I bet her pictures turned out really cute. Isn’t it hard deciding which ones to get?

Sarah, I have found that the white magic eraser (or generic) pads do a good job at removing some scuff marks off of walls and doors. just do a test patch to make sure it does not alter the finish.

That’s why I don’t wear makeup. When my face looks good, the rest of me looks bad!

I SO need to paint a couple of doors, but I lack your motivation!
