Further Evidence
I mentioned in my last post that wallpaper in an old house is most surely hiding SOMEthing… look what I uncovered on Saturday:

When you tap on that hideous floral I-don’t-even-know-what-to-call-it, it moves. Which means there is a hole in the wall behind it. Same with the CARDBOARD AND TAPE.
Last time I checked, CARDBOARD AND TAPE were TEMPORARY solutions for problems like, I don’t know, holes in walls… and yet it was covered up with wallpaper. Which tends to be a little more, um, permanent. I was a little surprised.
(Okay, not that surprised.)
But really, it just confirms for me that I need to have the drywallers back. There are a lot of patches that need to be fixed under the cabinets and the walls really don’t have corners, per se. (A wall ends and another wall just sort of begins.) It’s more than I can do in any decent time frame.
So I’ll have them come back after I finish clearing the walls of fruity wallpaper. And THEN I’ll break out the paint.

hehe…look forward to seeing the finished product!
I can’t wait to hear Andy’s version of this project. :)
the people who owned our house tried to fix a hole in the foundation that LEAKED with saran wrap and tape.
nothing surprises me anymore!
Sounds like you are starting off the new year with a bang…..already into a remodling project!
No kidding, my grandma had that EXACT same pattern in her bathroom.
I’ve unconvered weird wall patches, too, when remodeling our first house which was 120 years old. People do stupid things!
wow, that’s…amazing. and, once you fix the hole, you should totally try to match that wallpaper pattern- so pretty! ;) good luck!
Yeah, those holes are great ways for everything from Arctic blasts to snakes and mice, to enter your house. I’m glad you discovered them!
Somehow you’re never lacking adventure, are you? :)
Never. ;)
After we moved in our house (8 yrs ago) we found several spliced electrical wires joined only by electrical tape! Can we say, “FIRE HAZARD,” not to mention, “HOW IN THE HECK DID THE INSPECTOR MISS THIS?!” At least a hole in the wall, as annoying as it is, isn’t likely to burn the place down.
I’m working my way backwards through these posts, so, um, maybe I was a little too quick to congratulate you on a completed task. Sounds like the real fun is just beginning. ;)
