Phase 2, Complete
(Tap, tap, tap. Is this thing on?)
The drywaller finished up on Saturday morning, and the kitchen is all primed and ready for paint! I haven’t pulled it down from the attic yet; still crossing my fingers it hasn’t dried out. (I’m using leftover paint from when my mom and I stripped the wallpaper in the dining room four-ish years ago.) But still, getting closer!!!
I ran some errands with the kids in the freezing cold on Saturday and then Sarah had us over for supper and playtime after naps. It sort of felt like a daycare, what with the eight (EIGHT!) kids between the two of us. It was a busy and fun day but our house is still trashed, and here it is Monday.
I also made two dresses for Adelaide this weekend (SO CUTE!), and a skirt for Madeline with the extras. I still need a few things for finishing touches and then I’ll post some photos.
On a totally un-related note (except for the fact that she’ll wear one of the dresses to the Valentine’s Tea we’re invited to on Saturday), what are some fun things you like to do with your kids for Valentine’s Day?

Well, I don’t know that I’ve ever done anything fun with my kids on Valentine’s Day! It’s traditionally the day when my hubby and I tell them this: “This is our day, because we’re in love and married. Someday this day will be for you too.” Rather limited, I admit, but there you have it. So, usually we leave the kids at home and go out to eat. This year, however, I am doing something very kind for my 10 yo daughter. She’s homeschooled now, and loving it, so this year I am NOT requiring her to give silly little valentine cards to boys whom she despises and who likewise despise and ridicule her, forcing her to say things to them that she’d rather be caught DEAD than say. She has thanked me several times already.
Andy has to work. I’ve always thought of it as a holiday about love, and not necessarily romantic love (although there is that). My mom always had little cards and candy for us, maybe one gift. And we usually made homemade cards for our school exchange. I’m also planning on making heart-shaped cookies and letting the kids decorate them. One of the kids’ favorite books is Over and Over (Charlotte Zolotow) and Madeline’s been waiting for the day when she gets little valentine cards at breakfast like the girl in the book — they LOVE any excuse for a fun holiday.
Red velvet cupcakes! But this will be a first…
I really love V-day! Since Naomi is homeschooling, we’re going to deliver chocolate chip mini muffins and cards to her friends via mailboxes (or front door steps) on Friday. She is SO looking forward to it!
