I really love V-day! Since Naomi is homeschooling, we're going to deliver chocolate chip mini muffins and cards to her friends via mailboxes (or front door steps) on Friday. She is SO looking forward to it!

Andy has to work. I've always thought of it as a holiday about love, and not necessarily romantic love (although there is that). My mom always had little cards and candy for us, maybe one gift. And we usually made homemade cards for our school exchange. I'm also planning on making heart-shaped cookies and letting the kids decorate them. One of the kids' favorite books is Over and Over (Charlotte Zolotow) and Madeline's been waiting for the day when she gets little valentine cards at breakfast like the girl in the book -- they LOVE any excuse for a fun holiday.

Well, I don't know that I've ever done anything fun with my kids on Valentine's Day! It's traditionally the day when my hubby and I tell them this: "This is our day, because we're in love and married. Someday this day will be for you too." Rather limited, I admit, but there you have it. So, usually we leave the kids at home and go out to eat. This year, however, I am doing something very kind for my 10 yo daughter. She's homeschooled now, and loving it, so this year I am NOT requiring her to give silly little valentine cards to boys whom she despises and who likewise despise and ridicule her, forcing her to say things to them that she'd rather be caught DEAD than say. She has thanked me several times already.
